Responsibilities

The Tax Assessor is responsible for discovering, describing and determining property value of all Real and Personal Property subject to property taxation, and must comply with Maine State Statutes primarily Title 36 of the Maine Revised Statutes Annotated (MRSA).

To raise the funds for the budget approved by the City Council, the Assessor prepares a list of these properties annually and commits the assessments to the City Tax Collector for collection. The Assessing Office then reports to the State Department of Revenue Services regarding its activities for the year.

Tax Rate: $15.10 per thousand dollars of the Assessment Ratio Valuation for fiscal year 2025-2026

Assessment Date: April 1st, 2025
Commitment Date:  July 17, 2025

Appeal Deadline: January 19th, 2026; end of business day (4:00 PM)

Due Dates: September 2nd, 2025; November 17th, 2025; February 17th, 2026; May 15th, 2026

Certified Ratio:        90%
