What you Need to Register Your Vehicle

The City of Westbrook is an agent for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. This means the city has authorization from the State of Maine to process re-registrations and new registrations on most passenger type vehicles and commercial vehicles registered for gross weight less than 6,000 pounds.

Proof of insurance showing VIN# and effective dates of policy
Complete Bill of Sale (Must have year, make, model, VIN number, current mileage, date of sale, amount paid, Names & addresses of both seller and buyer and signatures of both buyer and seller
Previous owner’s Original Title Certificate if the vehicle is 2000 or newer. (Must be fully completed on the back side by the seller, showing who the vehicle is being sold to, current mileage, date of sale and must be signed by each of the individuals listed on the front of the title. The title must be free of liens)

New Maine Resident

Proof of residency
Proof of insurance showing VIN# and effective dates of policy
Registration from previous residence
Original Title Certificate if the vehicle is 2000 or newer. (The state of Maine will honor other states title laws)
